I second that. Really the only way to pull it is with the motor/tranny bolted together.

Can you Pull/Drop the Block ony?
Can you pull a 8v block while leaving the tranny in the car? I'm tired of working on the wife's Jetta. I just put a tranny in a few months ago and now it needs a motor. The head is off and it looks like if I remove the pulleys the block will slide out enough to clear the bellhousing. I will have a hoist and pair of floor jacks. Has anyone done this?

Physically yes with some struggling, it will be a pain putting it back in if the motor is rebuilt out of the car. It would be much quicker to take the trans out aswell.

i agree. ive if you could do it, it would be a much bigger pita to try and leave it on there.
