Can you use a MkIII MC instead of the 16V scirocco MC?

Okay, I was browsing the classified forums and there was a guy who was selling non ABS MkIII master cylinders. He said that they are the same size as the 16V rocco (22mm I think) and work just as well. Can anyone verify this? Can you actually use these MCs and they will bolt right up? TIA!

bump...good question

If I remember correctly it has been a while but Autotech's sport master cylinder for the A1 upgrade to 10.1 front disks and rear disk brakes is the A3 master cylinder. Give them a call and ask?

I don't know if the bolt pattern is the same on the two, I know the mk3 master cylinder won't fit a stock rabbit booster though. I ended up using the booster out of a 2.0 16v passat, with the mk3 master cylinder. I had to make the booster pushrod about 3/4" longer for it to work with my stock pedal cluster.

I dont think an ABS one will work but a non ABS will, IIRC!

Okay, I already bought a 16V rocco pedal cluster, its just not here yet. Also, I know where I can get a MkIII MC, hopefully non ABS and hopefully cheap. I guess all I need now would be a 16V scirocco booster.

you definetly need the 16V booster for the 22mm master. once you do the switch, the pedal cluster is a straight forward swap. a good time to buy some ratchet metric wrenches because its next to impossible to reach around the booster to loosen the 3 nuts holding it.

So true I just helped a buddy do that last night, royal pain in the arse

Good news. Today I went to the local yard and scored a nice (non ABS) MC off a '94 Jetta for $20!
Since I already have a rocco 16V pedal cluster bought, all I need now is a booster and a good set of 10.1 front calipers. Brake system is almost complete now.
