Cape Cod Vacation recommendations?

Hey folks,
I'm going on a vacation with my g/f this Thursday thru Wednesday. I was supposed to plan this out, but didn't have much time because of my demanding work schedule. So it looks like I'll be winging this trip!
My idea was to take her to Cape Cod. Any ideas on what town to go/where to stay? What to do? Lower cape? Upper cape? If worse comes to worse I may end up driving up there and wherever looks good I will stay. Never been there so I don't know what to expect. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

go to chatham http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
it's on the "outer" portion of the "elbow".
awesome beaches, nice hotels, B&B's, even the motels are nice.
there is a sweet lookout in front of the lighthouse, just up from the main beach.
plus it's right in the middle of the cape so you are within a 2 hour drive from the begining or the end of the cape.

you will have an EXTREMELY! hard time finding a rooom this late. Its the 4th of july dude! First off your going to sit in a couple hours of traffic before you even get on the cape. Id start calling hotels in Hyannis as they have the greatest concentration of them. Take a ride out to Provincetown ehehehehehe.

We go every year and to be truthful you might want to look at another
destination. Sorry but if you do find something noe it's gonna be expensive.
Good Luck...

provincetown is pretty phat.
nothing will really "look good" from the road. its one highway that runs thru the middle of it. pretty much every exit will put you at a beach.
Re: Cape Cod Vacation recommendations? (Bob Opla)

go to Block Island instead!
10,000x better than the Cape
Re: Cape Cod Vacation recommendations? (germantoy)

Yeah I know I could have done a better job planning this trip, the traffic will be bad, availability will be limited, places may be a bit expensive, etc. But I will still go, probably leave late at night on July 3rd to avoid traffic. Any more Cape Cod ideas, keep them coming! I'm looking for ideas on where to go, where to stay and what to do.
And what's block island all about? Where is it? What's there to do there? Don't know anything about it. I'm mainly looking for a nice quaint place to take my girlfriend, and have lots of places to see/things to do during the day.

I knew a chick that had a house there
Re: Cape Cod Vacation recommendations? (protijy337)

yea the drive in at Wellfleet is pretty cool, and every wensday they have a flea market. Wellfleet is a pretty nice town, u will need to get a parking pass to goto most of the beaches there but there is one that is free. I forgot which. The pond are really nice also. I would generally recommend the upper cape if you can find a room.

i would rather stab myself in the ear then go to the cape this weekend.

Thanks for all your feedback, fellas. I've decided I'd like to stay above Hyannis, I'm thinking somewhere by the Welfleet/Eastham area, but it doesn't have to be in either of these exact towns. I hear its not as touristy and very pretty there. I found this link to B&B's on the net.

Does anyone know of these places and/or can recommend me where to stay exactly? I'm looking for a nice quaint place on or near the water. I'm sure availability will be limited at this point, but I'll make some calls to see what I can still get.
