Car and Driver has named the Volkswagen Golf to its 10Best cars list for 2018. And not just one model, the entire Golf family. From the base model to the Golf R, with a SportWagen stop in the middle, it's the Golf's 12th consecutive year to take the honor.

So what makes Car and Driver put the Golf on their 2018 10Best Cars list for 12 years in a row? For a start, it's fun to drive. And not just the GTI or the R, they all are. "Grab some time in a 170-hp base 1.8T and you’ll find yourself impressed with how its precise steering, firm brake pedal, and well-tuned suspension helps soften the rigmarole of even the most mundane commutes," they said.

The GTI adds power and performance that magnifies the driving enjoyment the Golf provides. Then the R turns that up even more, but the editors of C/D liked that the Golf R can still be an everyday car. "Equally impressive is its ability to dial back the intensity and serve as a four-door transportation device spacious and comfortable enough to take your grandmother—and her Saint Bernard—to town in."

Even the e-Golf was praised for being practical, fun to drive, and deliver 125 miles of electric range.

VW of America President and CEO Hinrich J Woebcken said that "we are honored that Car and Driver has named the Volkswagen Golf models to its 2018 ‘10Best’ list."
