I just got my Car and Driver the other day. I looked on the cover and saw that they were doing a "hot hatch comparison." So I knew the GTI had to win right. 180 hp, 0-60 in 6.5 sec, low price, excellent quailty, excellent everything. I was shocked to see that it came in last place. Lost to the Honda and the Ford. What were they thinking???

in a nutshell: the gti is no longer a hot hatch. a hot hatch doesn't focus on leather and sunroofs and airbags and a cushy ride. a hot hatch has a damn good stock suspension that handles well out of the factory. the si and the focus absolutely own the gti in those aspects. remember that they test stock cars, they don't care if you can get sport springs and improve the gti 10x.

Re: Car and Driver: VW GTI 1.8t vs. Honda Civic SI hatchback vs. Ford Focus SVT (DohRado)

but the SVTs aren't really "stock" cars... sure, they're factory, but the SVTs are, well, badass....

but now that I think about it, a stock focus, civic, golf comparison wouldn't make for an interesting read, eh?
