I have a '95 Golf 2.0 with p-flo/exhaust/p-chip/and neuspeed cam. Summer has began in Vegas and it is starting to run too hot. I take the freeway to work around noon and the temp. rises past the halfway mark on the gauge if I have the A/C on. It still runs a little hotter than normal even without the A/C on. Anything I can do to cool this thing down?

Fans coming on? Both speeds and high speed w/AC on? Coolant ever been flushed? Water pump changed? How many miles/time on all that stuff?

Simple one is to make sure your fan connection is good. I bumped mine when I did my trans swap and it didn't turn on anymore. All I had to do was wiggle it and push it in. Ha ha that sounded pornographic.

Have you ever changed out the coolant? Now may be a good time to flush and fill with some fresh coolant and water. And it also may be a good time to swap out the t-stat.

Re: Car is running too hot. (Glenn J)

Well I was having a lot of problems with the car overheating and bucking/stalling for the past 4 months. I finally took it to Wolf DMS out here in Vegas (Great guys and really quality work!!) and they changed my idle stabilizer valve, a coolant hose had a hole in it so they replaced that, and the coolant flange off of the block had been leaking, that was replaced as well. They put in all new coolant and the car is running great!! It's just that here in Vegas it is extra hot and driving with the A/C is horrid. Driving without it the past couple of days I have noticed that the car is actually running at normal temp. But once the A/C is on it's all downhill.

Do you notice the hot running condition at freeway speeds or in stop-and-go traffic? Both?

Both...but I'm mainly taking the freeway in the daytime. I would think it would run cooler on the freeway with the A/C on?

Does the fans high speed turn on when the AC is on?
Not sure. Should I just turn the A/C on and check to see if it's spinning or not?

Both fans should spin, but there's a low and a high speed that the fans run at depending on the coolant temp. With the AC on in warm or hot weather, the high speed should cycle on and off as needed.
