My 2013 Golf 2.5l automatic started idling rough about 3 days ago. It got worse with each day until today it completely stalled when I started it up. It runs for about 2 seconds and then stalls.

• Air intake and filter are good
• PCV valve is good no rips or clogs (was changed 4 months ago)
• Oil was changed around 1 month ago and levels are good
• Timing chain seems fine

I was fiddling around with it and decided to take off the oil cap, and when I turned it over it was running again... Mind you it wasn't idling smooth, but when I revved it, it sounded good no knocks or misfires. The only thing I did to it recently was add a quarter of a quart of oil because it was low.

The codes that are showing are:

• P2187 System too Lean at Idle
• P0507 Idle Control System RPM Higher than Expected
• P0106 Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO Sensor Range/Performance
• P2279 Intake Air System Leak

I'm completely lost hoping someone can guide me in the right direction.

The MAP sensor is where I'd concentrate my efforts.

Check for leaks will cause all those faults since you had to top off oil check for rear main seal active oil leaks

Update: I got it working. The MAP sensor was the issue I took it out and it was covered in oil. I replaced it and cleaned out the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and also changed out the spark plugs which were the original and also had oil on them. After that I started it back up and it was still stalling after 2 seconds.… then I realized that I forgot to reset the codes. After I reset it it ran great.

If you have on spark plug thread you likely have cam cover leaks. Just saying. Glad you fix it. Never seen map sensor filled with oil. 🍻
