My girlfriends called me and told me that her car battery died. She got a jump and was on her way. AAA guy said she needed a new battery. I installed a new battery and the car won't turn over with the key.
When you turn the ignition power on the odometer stop displaying the mileage and looks like this
" l0 02" except the first "0" is open at the bottom
If I put power directly to the solenoid the car starts right up.
I tried bypassing the clutch engagement switch and that did nothing.
I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key.
Any experience this before?

could poss be a bad ign switch.

Check the alarm, maybe someone disconnected the alarm horn. The car will function perfectly fine with the alarm going off, it just disables the starter.
Is the little LED blinking?
If it is, try unlocking it from the passenger's side or trunk.
The thing on the odometer is just a service reminder, there's a way to reset it, but it doesn't hurt anything.

Did she have trouble starting it before, like she had to wiggle it a little bit to get it started? Try a little wiggle and some slight upward pressure and if you can't get anything still I would think ignition cylinder.
It very well may be the immobilizer, what year did you say it was?

^^^vehicle will still crank when immo is tripped, it will just shut right off
