Re: Care and Feeding of the 2.8 Litre 30-Valve V6, mated to a 5-Speed Manual (Biking Viking)
Just follow what's in your owners manual and you should be fine
I'm approaching 28k miles on my 2000 B5 GLX.
I've had zero problems with my 5-spd tranny and haven't had to do any special maintenance other than what's outlined in the owners manual.
I've had a few issues with my 30v V6:
Secondary Air Purge Valve failed: This was causing my CEL to come on with the message "Emissions Workshop!". My b2b warranty had expired but the dealer replaced this for free (VW goodwill or something like that).
Valve Cover Seals: I've been finding oil on the back of my engine and on the exhaust manifold. Dealer thought it was the valve cover seals and replaced them under the powertrain warranty. But the leak persists. They dumped some dye in my oil and are going to check for leaks next week.
Our Audi brothers have had these same problems on the A4 and A6, as they share the same engine as the B5. Some of the best advice I received about this engine was from
