without the 6 CD changer. Would like to be able to play MP3s. Looking for recommendation on what to buy. I am not very knowledgeable about the topic, so links and details would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Steph, congrats on your purchase. Currently no aftermarket CD-Changer that plays MP3's works with the OEM Volkswagen radio. If you don't use the VW Changer, you can run a Panasonic CXDP880 8-Disc Changer and a special cable that works with your factory radio.
Have you considered the PhatNoise System by PhatBox? http://www.phatnoise.com/vw/
Now if you have your heart set on a CD-Changer that plays MP3's, then you may want to start shopping for a replacement Head-Unit, Amp, and Changer setup. If you have a new system professionally installed, make sure the installer does not use the K-Wire from the OEM stereo configuration. This will allow the dealership to use a VAG-COM and perform diagnostics on your car.
I hope this helps.
