OK so I just picked up this gti, w/ GIAC chip
pretty nice, runs gr8,
but it has a few little qwerks.
The CEL came on shortly after purchasing it which was alittle worrysome.
So I had it checked at autozone, and it came back with this
p1582
Definition:
idle adaptation at limit
explanation: rich air/fuel fatio, check fuel pressure/injectors
probably causes:
1check intake system for vac leaks
2canister purge solenoid stuck open
3 failed maf sensor.
NOW this actually sounds about right because the guy told me about
a crack in the intake elbow, which he thought was causing the idle to lope up/down.
I just wanted to post up here and see what you guys think,
as I have read that you can't quite trust what the autozone diagnostics tell u.
So yeah, what i KNOW,
throwing CEL p1582, and it's got a crack in the intake elbow..

just found out the leak in the intake arm was actually fixed already,
but it's still throwing this cell.
any thoughts?
Could it be that I need to reset the ecu or something?
i was thinking about just pulling the battery cable for a while, seeing if that'd do the trick.
But I duno..

dangit,
pulled battery cable for 15min,
then put key to on for 2min (w/o startin car)
started her up, and now it idles like CRAP
bounces up and down and even dies on deceleration sometimes.

Based on what I've read, this code on a MKIII is often/usually caused by a dirty throttle body.

You can spray throttle body cleaner into it with the intake tube off and the engine running.
