Center of Digital Cockpit Stuck on Map Display (2021)

When I bought my car, I set up the digital cockpit as follows, and it's been this way for the entire year:

However, I decided the other day to just try putting the map in the center instead of the range. When I used the left/right buttons on the right side of the steering wheel to scroll through the options for the center, the navigation option originally started as a compass with the image of a car in the center of it. Then, like other options for the center, I could then press the up/down buttons on the right side of the steering wheel to scroll through the various sub options and select one by hitting ok. This is how I set the map in the center; it was originally a compass, and then I pressed up/down and scrolled down to "Map Display" or something like that and that put the map in the center of the cluster:

However, I decided I didn't like it and wanted to go back to the range in the center just as before. Simple, right? Well now I have two problems:

1) Once you are in map display as shown above, there seems to be absolutely no way to back out of it to the navigation sub-menu (where I can go back to compass or whatever other options were there originally); pressing the up/down buttons only zooms in and out of the map, it doesn't back you out to the sub menus, and pressing OK only toggles on/off the auto zoom feature. I've tried everything to back out of map display to get back to the sub menu, long press on ok, fooled around with the three different views, tried to scroll left and right through the other menus (driving data, phone, audio, etc.) and do any sorcery I could to get back to the navigation sub menu - anything I could do to get back to the sub menu structure for navigation and nothing works.

So then I was like well screw it, I didn't really care about going back to the sub menu anyway because I was just going to go back to the range display anyway. So I did that, but now...

2) Whenever I start the car, it initially displays the range in the center, but as soon as navigation starts, it replaces it with the stupid map display again. I have to manually scroll left/right back to range, and even when I first land on range and hit OK to for sure set it as my selection, the next time I start the car, same thing - starts with range, gets replaced with map display.

I think #2 is somehow caused by the fact I can't get back to the sub menu in #1 to set it back to the default compass option, so I think the car just automatically assumes that as long as I have the nav map display set under the nav option, that that's what I want in the center. This is pretty dumb because if I wanted that, I'd leave the car on it instead of switching over to range. Basically once I tried the map display option, I'm now forever stuck with it.

Any ideas how to get back to the navigation sub menu, up one level from selecting the map display option?

I may be wrong here but I think the nav map cannot show up on the digital cockpit and the center screen at the same time. Try putting the map up on the center screen and see if it disappears. My guess is it will just go to the compass and not the remaining miles in your tank.

If that's the case, when you are in park, go to the digital cockpit settings on the center screen and you can fully customize it there.

Thanks, I'm going to try this later today when I go drive the car. I googled and it looks like there also may be a setting/checkbox in the nav on the infotainment to allow/disallow the map to be in the digital cockpit, so I might be on the right track.

Final straw here....trade it in for a 2022
lol but I thought adjusting the exhaust tips was the final straw?:ROFLMAO:

Same issue on my 21. No matter what I do or what menu I leave in the center stack it always defaults to the map. It’s stayed for me once or twice on the last setting for example range but somehow it went to the map again and I gave up. VW quirks I just don’t even bother anymore.

Thanks guys, got it figured out, it's this checkbox that had to be unchecked which is only accessible from the head unit:

I guess by default it's unchecked but once you select the map display in the cockpit nav sub menu, this box gets checked and the only way to uncheck it is through the head unit (e.g. I got the map display in the cockpit by only using steering wheel controls but to back out of it you can't just use the steering controls, you have to go in through the infotainment nav to reverse it). Once I did this the center screen went back to the compass and I was able to see the sub menus again when pressing up and down on the right side of the steering wheel.

Did a couple restarts and all is back as I originally had it, range stays in the center again. Thanks y'all.

As for why I didn't keep the nav in the cockpit on my fancy car, it's because it's basically useless because it hardly shows any street names at all at any zoom level, and almost none whatsoever when in the autozoom mode you'd likely want to be in...was toodling down the freeway and it zoomed out nice and yet didn't show the name of a single other freeway and there were several in the map and plenty of room to display them...I noticed it's not any better in full screen either so it's not a space constraint...it just sorta sucks.
