I want to know what the difference would be for buying a "Centrifugal" vs. "Roots-type" supercharger for the passat B5.5 VR6?
Difference = Pro's / Con's for each, and which would be recommended to buy?
Also an interesting subject to throw in, are there kits to turbo a 2.8V VR6?
1st post to this forum, so if I missed this topic before could someone post a link to a topic that discusses this, thx.

Re: "Centrifugal" vs. "Roots-type" which is preferred??? (rasatm)

Centrifugal S/C's make max boost in the upper rpm range, roots type make max boost in the lower rpm range.
Nobody makes a roots type S/C for the VR6 - not enough room in the engine bay.
If you are looking for a supercharger for your '02 Passat, you are out of luck - nobody makes them for that model year (your engine is a true V6, not a VR6).

Really

Here, try this. For the newer V6 in the Passat's:

Hopefully it helps out. It's an Eaton vs. Centrifugal (V-1).

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "true V6"? The VR is a V6, allbeit, a narrow angle V6. But it's a V6 all the same.

What he means is the New car have V6's not VR6.. where VR is german for narrow angle.. when in the MKIII's they had a VR there is a 15º angle not really enough to be called a V6.. where as the new cars there is a 30º angle (I am not sure) wich in sence makes it a true V6

the "real" v6's also have "real" dual over head cams. the vr6 has one cam for intake, and one for exhause, but it only has 1 head!
traditionally DOHC in a v6, means 4 cams.....
