Re: CHANGING DRUMS TO ROTORS IN BACK anyone do it? (Mike_95CL)
...I'm still liking this option...for another 40 bux, I stay clean, get brand new parts, and a sure fit....
Still though...why the huge price difference?
Autotech - $895
ECS - $395
Both kits claim to be full bolt on kits, therefore, the autotech has these advantages...Stainless lines, Aftermarket Rotors and Pads...as it appears that ECS's is OEM equipment, however, if you are planning on sticking to OEM spec in the rear (like myself) I do not see how Autotech's would have any advantage what-so-ever...can someone please break down these two kits to justify pricing?
Re: CHANGING DRUMS TO ROTORS IN BACK anyone do it? (Pagano)
Well...I just called up ECS and spoke with Tom who is going to confirm pricing on everything, he said it is a full coversion, everything you need is included...I asked if he was famulure with the vortex and he is very famulure. So naturally, what the hey...asked about the possability of a GB as many of us have rear drums.
So who here would be interested in a GB on the rear conversion? I will be getting in contact with him tomorrow to get more info on all this. But I figured that the oppritunity was presenting itself...so why not? I do not have any pricing or # of required buys yet, hopefully I can get that info tomorrow. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Re: CHANGING DRUMS TO ROTORS IN BACK anyone do it? (K9jetta)
I still need to ask a few questions, my main concern is if infact EVERYTHING is there that is needed...he mentioned almost every part I can think of off the top of my head at the time, but if anyone has any questions let me know and I will ask tomorrow.
One thing I forgot to ask was wheater it was OEM spec equipment in a kit format, or if it was aftermarket mix/match stuff. I'll find all this out tomorrow...

c'mon, haven't you seen Autotech's prices for other stuff? They were the ones selling Quaifes for over $1200...
$400 should include all the OEM bits you need. rear brake lines, ebrake cables, calipers, stub axles, bearings, rotors, pads.
(edit) And the master cylinder is the same.
Re: CHANGING DRUMS TO ROTORS IN BACK anyone do it? (Lobstrosity)
True, they do overprice a lot of their stuff, but none the less, $400 is not a bad price to start with considering someone paid $350 from a yard for used parts. I'd like to see what a GB can get us down to - just need to show some interest here people, I'll be calling back around 12Noon est time
edit - From ECS's site:
ESR Rear Drum to Disc Conversion (4 or 5 lug rotors)
(sorry no pic)
-New rotors (either 4-lug or 5-lug) & pads
-New calipers & carriers
-New stub axles, bearings & seals
-New parking brake cables & brake lines
$395.00
This is a complete bolt-on kit
Re: CHANGING DRUMS TO ROTORS IN BACK anyone do it? (materrizzi)
We did it to my Golf...
We bought a whole rear axle w/ disks and proportioning valve from a 99 Golf for $300 cad from the scrapper
Bolted right in no problem
