Charging system Question!!!!

ok here is the dilemna. when all of my lights are on and my radio for anywhere from 5 to 10 miles it's cool. till I try to start my car back up, and it won't crank or it will crank really slowly sometimes starting but sometimes not. but then I can leave my car to sit for like 5 minutes then go out there crank it on and it is fine. What could this be?? also I noticed it starts better if before I shut it off my lights and radio weren't in use. I need to know if this is alternator or battery. thanks

might be dirty battory connection or bad connection on the small wire. there is also a comon problem with the alternator wire. autotech sells a nice fat one for $20. first test voltage with car on and off. on should be 13.5v - 16v. off around 12 ish +/- .5v if both ok I suspect the small wire on the possitive side of the battory where the clip is. this can cause all kinds of interesting problems as I recently found out.

I don't know if this is any addition to the problem. But I heard that you could test your charging system out by starting the car then undoing the positive on your battery, and if you car is still running fine then the alternator is ok and the battery is bad. Well I went outside started the car and took off the positive and it ran fine no problems even with my radio on and my high beams. so does this mean my battery has gone to heaven????
