Cheap UK insurance

Has anyone discovered a company that offers a good rate on Phaeton insurance?

Swiftcover have sent me a renewal notice which is 40% higher than last year and 60% higher than 2 years ago.

Living in London I have to expect to pay a lot more than elsewhere in the country but it is now becoming prohibitive given the falling worth of a 2004 Phaeton.

Any suggestions, are there any specialist firms? I've built up 7 or 8 years no claims.

Thanks Al

Not knowing how much you've been quoted makes it difficult to suggest other insurance companies.
Personally i'm inusred through Adrian FLux who quoted me far less than other companies, with protected no claims and including business use, my insurance came to £500.

Hope that this was helpful.

Stefan,

have you ever needed to make a claim with Adrian Flux? I avoided them last time round as I had read somewhere (can't remember where) that they were a nightmare to deal with in that respect. NOTE this is NOT my personal opinion as I have NEVER dealt with them and they may well be far better than other folks experiences that have been reported.

Hi Stu,

No never had to make a claim with them, although only been with them for this year, my previous insurance company stopped insuring private vehicles!!?
I had read too that Adrian Flux had a poor reputation but have since really upped their game...but i don't really want to find out if it's true or not;)

Adrian Flux should be avoided - I referred them to Ombudsman over claims as to extent of cover not matched by policy document sent to me - they assured me cover was in place but I demanded and got my money back as this was simply a nonsense.

I am with Admiral on multicar policy at £295 per annum for myslf and Mrs on policy.

I've been with LV= for three years. Currently paying £260 for fully comprehensive with protected full NCD. Wonder if it will go up in September on renewal.

Naturally I am a great risk prospect, wonderful driver (tongue in cheek here) and an IAM member but they do seem to like me and the Phaeton. My wife is also a named driver, just in case.

Thanks for all your replies so far.

To give you an idea of the numbers I'm up against Swiftcover have quoted me almost £1,400 a year. After I posted the thread I saw Go Compare advertised a link beneath it (clearly the tv adverts haven't got my attention!).

65 Quotes from Go Compare ranged from £1,400 to £4,000 from Tesco. Confused.com returned similar results although 2 were cheaper with minimum £3,000 excess.

I've tried Aviva which was also £1,400 once I'd added protected ncd and £350 excess (seems to be lowest i can get). Lv= equivalent was £2,550

Currently best quote I've got is from Direct Line as they have a 12 months for the price of 10 promotion.

Interested to know if there are any specialist companies that give low quotes for over 40s, maxed out no claim discount and lowish mileage drivers.

Al,

It is stating the obvious, but a lot depends on where you are located. From time to time forum members hint that it helps others to comment if the poster's profile includes location and model of Phaeton - and your post lacks this (unless I missed that in the string somewhere).

I insure with IAM Surety, their package offers a very full cover. My last renewal was £329 after NCD, in a rural Suffolk location, DOB 1952, with £500 excess. They are part of Adelade Insurance. Only problem is you need to be an Institute of Advance Motorists member. However, if you are not, that is only a question of signing up and doing perhaps 6 runs with an observer then the test. Total cost around £140, and well worth it in my view. I have done it for 2 wheels and four. Chances are your driving safety will improve.

Peter - I am also DOB 1952, living in Berkshire, excess is £160, premium just under £300 - I do not have Advanced Driver status - I appear to be a better risk!!! Maybe they think that if you go for Advanced Driver you might get a little cocky and start to get adventurous.

Seriously though - mileage also plays a part - mine is for 10000 miles a year - if I made it 15000 premium would rise - at least that is the structure of my policy.

Pscocoa,

My mileage is 12,000 a year so not much difference. Think I may get a quote from your crew this year and then use it in negotiation.

You might have been right a few years back, about being adventurous, until some s*d of a policeman clocked me on a temporary 50mph stretch of the A1 (clear dual carriageway no workmen etc.) at 67mph, after I entered it unawares from a side road. I asked for it to go to court and sent in detailed plans of the roads etc, and a long explanation of why they were wrong, only to have the s*d of a Magistrate give me a £700 fine and four points in return. Now I drive so carefuly it has become a family joke.

NB My £329 cover also includes UK breakdown recovery .....
