Check out my new (unwanted) interior mod!!

1165 Views 34 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Firestarter

I'm going to go get this checked out tomorrow. It was about 8°F when i started my car this morning, and the battery struggled a little bit to get it running. About 5 seconds after it started, the light came on. I just filled it up yesterday, so i could have gotten some bad gas.
It runs fine, sounds fine, smells fine. Everything works as far as i can tell.
Just thought i'd share...

gas cap shut tight?
Re: Check out my new (unwanted) interior mod!! (Firestarter)

mines been going off and on, but I finally figured it out... sort of. It comes when I start it cold, and don't let it warm up enough. It goes off three days later, no biggy for me.
Re: Check out my new (ig_88e)

Nice! Have you checked your fluids lately? Mines been on for half a year now off and on! Bad sensor somewhere. Doesnt run differently.
Re: Check out my new (ig_88e)

That was the first thing i checked...it was fine. I also looked for broken vacuum lines and electrical connections under the hood.
I know it's not hing serious, because the car runs fine and it's not blinking. But i just want it turned off, and i'm curious what the fault code really is...

sometimes if you redline too much...and take it over your rev limiter....(it happens sometimes)...your check engine light might pop up from that....i had a similar problem..i just got my car out of the mechanics...and everything was perfect...then right before i was leaving, the CE light comes on ...i was like wtf....never happened to me before...so we put in the VAG hookup...and check out what is going on... the CE was sensored by the code" Excess of engine speed" :X...we just cancled out the code...and everything has been cool since then..i recall hitting the redline late late at night....just going home from a late night of partying...so my CE was triggered a couple weeks later....crazy CE i tell ya ...ahhaha..another thing.... it could be a faulty distributor...or even your gas cap isnt put on tight enough .......
could be alot of things but if its not blinking ... dont worry to much..

How's your serpentine belt? My belt had cracks all over it. When I changed it, my CE light stayed off. According to my mechanic, he said my belt was slipping on my alternator, causing my CE light to go on!

Re: Check out my new (STEALTHDEMONDUB)

wonder what it means when it blinks?
ive driven with it blinking quite a few times
i dont even watch it anymore, its like it has a mind of its own
it will come on for 1/2 hour, then go back off
or sometimes it comes on and then turns right off
i think it smokes more than i do

Re: Check out my new (unwanted) interior mod!! (Firestarter)

find someone with vag-com and have it checked out. I'm gonna change my O2 sensor just to see if that works out. forgot what was the DTC for mine now, I'll have to look it up.

[edit] found the DTC I got when scaned [/edit]
16555 - Fuel trim system: Too lean. Bank 1
35-10---Intermittent
someone said it could be a O2 sensor since I notice some bad smell from exhaust when I shut off the car. It seemed that the smell has gone since I have moved to different city. Go figure!

Re: Check out my new (Severance)

ya jeremy is not joking around john... im sure with jeremys setup and doing warp speed all the time.. he has his CE bouncing on and off like a disco ball hahahaha
im sure if you have a turbo setup on your car... there is going to be minor faults ...such as the CE light blinking...but on a basically oem setup...blinking would be a bad thing lol....but like he said...it blinks on him all the time...i think the CE just had one too many spliffs

Just changed 5000 miles ago...along with all the other belts, and the spark plugs.
And incidentally, i run the tach into the red zone all the time. I've got a TT chip, so my limiter is higher.
I wonder if the chip has anythign to do with it. I've heard that aftermarket chips make the CEL more sensitive.
Re: Check out my new (Firestarter)

have you ever red lined??? like bounced it off??you have to be way over 7400 mind you....with the chip.....check it out on VAG....i never got a check engine light, until i accidently bounced it off the redline.....get VAG...then just clear the codes if you are really worred about it ..

It's an LED....you'll wait for a long time for it to burn out.
And no, i've never gotten it to the redline with the TT. I bounced off the factory rev limiter with my stock ecu...but i've never gotten over 7000 with the TT.

Re: Check out my new (Severance)

My mechanic said that if you don't let the car warm up a bit on really cold days it can throw a CE light because the car goes into lean mode or something like that.
Moral of the story, let the car warm up a bit before you get on it...
