So I'm watching the Amazing Race and was chuckling over the A2 taxi-cabs when I got to thinking about the headliners in the camera shots, since I was finally screwed by a nice big air bubble in the rear. Has anybody heard of a company or a person in N.A. that has made inquires about getting ahold of these. I imagine impossible but I thought I might as well ask out of curiosity.

They still make and sell a2 jettas in china so he wants to know if someone imports parts (specifically headliners) for those cars to North America (N.A.).

Ok, maybe the question could have been a little clearer. Luqac got it right.

Basically I was curious if anybody has heard of someone making even the most basic of inquires of importing a batch of headliners from China, not just one or two but a large quantity. I imagine that there are obstacles that would prevent this for whatever reason , but I can't believe the some enterprising individual has not looked into this at some point.
I've never seeen this mentioned before so I thought I'd ask.
Hey Vwtoys, What I need to do is buy you a larger suitcase...

I have a friend in hong kong now and i was trying to get him to see about getting a freight container. I know that there are some restrictions. I could care less about headliners, your local sunroof shop can install a nice velour headliner for like 15$ so it is worthless to waste my time getting a china one, what i want something else (i am not going to tell and ruin it for myself and my business partners) off the new china jettas, i have a friend that is looking into importing stuff now.

I have an awesome idea for headliners that I think would seel like hot cakes, because the way I'd build them would make them indestructable, but we'll see if it'll work first. If it does, I'll be advertising here on the Vortex....

Actually, you and your business partners could probably sell a whole container full of headliners. In case you hadn't noticed, most (all?) mk2 cars suffer from clapped out headliners. It's not so much a matter of having someone re-cover it for $15, but having a good foundation to begin with. More than likely, it will cost $100-150 for a professional repair cracks and re-cover. I know PLENTY of mk2 owners who would gladly pay that much (or more) for a brand spankin' new headliner. BTW, Golf 2-door (with sunroof) headliners are not available in North America and haven't been for some time.
Oh well. Maybe you and your partners will find enough people willing to buy a container full of Chinese mk2 Corrado-style dashes... Didi I say that out loud?

One word: humidity. The older vinyl-over-styrofoam headliners hold up pretty well. The later black cloth ones don't. Seems as though the fabric and glue are too heavy to overcome gravity, wind, moisture and/or tbirds hair spray.

Dutchie, you know that the cars they've got are mostly either Pennsylvania- or Mexico-made cars. They may have had different headliners in those factories vs. Wolfsburg. I know the Pennsylvania made Rabbit is hardly anything like the Wolfsburg made Golf 1. Totally different dashboard and headliner are among the biggest interoir differences.

My nice German made Passat also has the nice saggy cloth headliner as does every other Passat B3B4 in the Passat forum. Eventually it will happen to you regardless of where the part is made. My 86 A2 headliner was bubbling in many different places and it had the foam/vinyl type one with the printed intertwined worms type headliner.
