Wondering how many peeps would risk denial of warranty for the speed.

Re: Chip a New Jetta? (evanb)

I must & will probably be the only one in here having this opinion : I am/will be doing suspension (H&R Coilovers) before chip. I will also be adding an intake (Neuspeed intake not CAI) and downpipe. I have wheels + catback right now, but after much consideration, I want to learn how to walk before I can run. Now this is contraversial in this forum, but it's my humble opinion

Ask the dealer. My dealer said no problem as long as it does not interfer with diagnostic work. You can also get the swich back option which I have. 2001 GIAC on my VR6. 2 months of flawless performance. Airbag light came on before chip side air bag fault repaired by dealer; and after (steering wheel air bag) mod dealer repaired under warranty no problem. If your not comfortable don't do it. The 1.8T is another animal all together. Huge HP gains on the turbo. Good luck.

I would say go in for service one more time, and then chip your car. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Chip a New Jetta? (betta jetta)

seriously, wait like 5000 miles. That seems to be the number that i have been seeing the most, that's why i am waiting. Hey what kind of chip are you looking at anyways? Some push your turbo more than others so if longevity isn't a concern i would got like APR but if you are like me and like money and longevity go with UPSolute, that seems to be the best for your buck. One more thing, you need a new suspension. The body roll on a stock 2002 Jetta seems a bit uncomfortable for me to have a chip. The wheels should be wider also to increase grip. THat's what i think

I think of it this way. If you have ANY concerns what-so-ever about you voiding the warranty, then you shouldn't chip it. Simply, if you have to think about it, don't do it. That's the way I think, a lot of people may not agree with me, but hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. BTW, I chipped at about 15k.
Re: Chip a New Jetta? (hugemikeyd)

Was going for the APR chip.
Re: Chip a New Jetta? (Jetta_J)

I agree with you Jetta_J. I changed the suspension before chipping. IMHO the mushy stock suspenison can't even handle the stock power. I did not feel in control with all the bouncing at higher speeds, especially in emergency situations. Chipped just over 10k.

Good move. Improve the handling first. It doesn't void the warranty

Re: Chip a New Jetta? (Green-Golf)

I'll third, or fourth that. Do the suspension first. Won't void warranty (well, it will void your suspension warranty, but that is unlikely to be a big hassle for you), and will make the car handle much better.
Then do the chip.
