Ben:
Mercury? Which? I'm unaware of that, if so.

They developed it and used it in their boat motors:

Re: CL QUIZ QUESTION: What companies have produced flat 4 motors? (Corrado2Passat)

Alfa-Romeo (AlfaSud, 33, 145/146, derivatives of these)
Citroën (GS, and certain Oltcit cars, which are derived from Citroen Designs)
Jowett (Javelin, Jupiter)
Lancia (Flavia, Gamma)
Porsche (912, 356, 914, with help from VW)
Subaru (Star, Leone, Leone II/DL/GL, Leone III/Loyale, Legacy, Impreza, Impreza II)
Volkswagen (all Air-cooled)
I can think of many more flat twins, and a few flat sixes, can't think of too many more flat fours but I know there are more out there.
Mercury marine does not count - they're not a car company. Mercury division of Ford Motor Company does not produce marine engines. In fact, it hasn't produced it's own car engines very often throughout it's history.

Ah-ha! I knew it! I thought I was going crazy!
I should cut and paste from my post in the other thread, but it looks like they've been covered for the most part.
