I have a '97 Jetta 2.0, the original clutch was replaced at 80,000 miles, it's now at 97,000. When i'm really getting on it, and snap shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, etc. the rpms slide up and i can tell the clutch is slipping bad. I fully disengage the clutch and fully engage it during shifting. This is during WOT shifting. Any ideas on this? Thanks 'texers

Re: Clutch issues (College Dub)

I replaced the clutch on my '95 Passat because it was slipping like crazy, but my RPM's were still a little funny. I asked around, and it turned out my mass air meter was shot, and that's what was jerking with my RPM's between shifts. So after another $500, I had a new mass air meter, and everything was fine. All this happened at about 65k miles (you went 80k, that's awesome).
Of course, perhaps your problem is different, and you know for sure it's the clutch because you know what you're talking about (and I know very little) but maybe this is helpful since it sounded similar.
