i know it means no 2 cylinder misfire...now what would cause this, is it something simple like a sparkplug or wire, or could it be caused by a messed up coil...this happened today and happened before like over a month ago and then went away...

Re: Code PO302 on 97 GL (crxgat0r)

Probably a plug or plug wire. Generally, on a Mk3, the coil pack won't trip a code. Occasionally, it will be a dirty injector, but I'd definitely take a hard look at the plugs/wires. Listen closely for obvious arc'ing, spray it all down with water and watch/listen again, or even ground a long screwdriver and run it all along the plug wires and watch/listen for arc's. HTH,

Coil packs are a big problem on thes cars, so spray the coil pack also. Water alone won't always show up an arcing problem. We use a professional product from Wynn's called "HY Volt."
