Hello,
I'm new to A1's so bear with me. My new 81 Caddy does not seem to go into cold start mode when I start it in the morning. It idles rough, doesn't have a high idle and is somewhat difficult to start on cold mornings. Once it warms up all is well. Can anyone give me some insight on what to look at?
Thanks

Re: Cold start problem (Supercharged VR6)

Check the idle air valve, I believe you have the mechanical idle air bypass. Remove it and look through it and make sure it is open fully when cold. Also check to see if there is voltage to it and your warm up regulator.
Check cold fuel pressure - particularly pay attention to the control pressure fron the warm-up regulator, CPR pressure should start low and as the engine warms up, go higher. Check the manual. Also check the Thermal time switch, this switch tells the ECU to go into closed or open loop. Check the cold start switch while your at it. I think it is still working since the engine did start but I could be wrong.

Re: Cold start problem (Supercharged VR6)

The switch that controls ECU closed loop status is a 2 wire switch located in the bottom of the coolent neck on the front of the cylinderhead (upper rad hose). The switch that effects the cold start injector is located on top of the coolent neck.
