Cold Starting problem 1.8 Turbo

I've been having these Cold Starting Problem for a while now.
Scenario: The car will crank and then turn over for about 1-2 secsonds, then it will just die. It has happened when Ive gone into the bank and came back out & after sitting overnight, so it doesnt matter how long its been sitting.
On the second try if I wait for the lights to go off , then no problems, it starts just fine.
Needless to say that at the VAG service NOTHING came up with the computer and there were no error readings.
Do any body has a clue????
THX,
Isaac

Re: Cold Starting problem 1.8 Turbo (Isaac F)

Hi, went through all of this for 5 months before VW technical figured out what was wrong with my car. It did the same exact thing at startup and the dealers VAG tool never showed any fault code. Finally, after my third visit to the dealer, a call to VWoA, and the mechanics call to VW Technical, they replaced the MAF sensor and the car now starts fine. They also replaced the coolant temp sensor before this; obviously it wasn't the true problem.

This is a first indication of a failing MAF sensor. That or make sure to wait a second before starting the car. Turn the key forward then count till 3 then crank. THis has helped some in the 1.8t forum.

It could also be your fuel pump regulator. I had a very similar problem and the dealership changed the fp reg. Haven't had the problem since.

it's the MAF. you won't find any codes for a while.
replace the MAF and you will be fine! just happening when the engine is cold. sometimes the car just idles up and down until the engine warmed up. when the car is warm, no problem at all!
