I've read a little on people having trouble with the case on the Mks coil case cracking. Is this a VERY common thing to happen? When I was detailing my engine bay this weekend, I noticed that the outer casing on mine could be compromised (can see a copperish color in the crack; is this the coil core?). I don't notice an drivability problems, but don't want to chance it. The car has 124,000 mi. and this is probably the original coil.
Thanks

Re: Common for Mk3 ignition coil case to crack? (zuren1cs)

what up chris.
mine had a nice crack down the middle of it too. i covered the crack with some J-B weld after it left me stranded a couple times on the freeway during a rain storm. the first time it happened, i actually saw the arch from the lead going to the ditributor across the coil pack to the metal post on the other side of it.
we got some good rain this weekend, and on the freeway, i didn't have a single misfire...
hope this helps. it's some good preventative maintenance....

Hmmm JB weld works for that? I used it on a loose brass vaccum hose fitting where it affixes to the top of the TB next to the manifold and it worked wonderfully http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I will have to try it on the coilpack as well

I know, I was kinda skeptical too, but the website said it was good for plastic and all sorts of stuff, not just metalic material. and it's good up to 500*F too! It's just an epoxy, and those just plain rock http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
