I am replacing the lower rear control arms on my passat and the new ones come with a small red rubber spacer stuck into the bushing . Is this supposed to be removed before I install?

How small? My front end kit from ECS had red/maroon protective sleeves over all threaded connections. Remove these before installing. Part should look like part removed from vehicle.
FWIW, my 130k mileage passat wagon drives like new since installing all new front end. You won't regret this.

here what it looks like. Cant think of any good reason for it to be there. Every pic I could find online shows this piecein it. I dont know I feel retarded that I dont know the answer
