Was rescuing some filing cabinets from a dumpster and noticed a real mint Solara convertible nearby. California plates.
Man these were such nice cars, how come all interest in them died out?
What's your lonely convertible submission?

The filing cabinets ended up being no good.

Well, now you know why those filing cabinets were in the dumpster.

The Solara died because the people square enough to buy a Camry unsurprisingly also weren't cool enough to look past the fact a convertible is impractical. A Camry convertible is an oxymoron - the Camcord crowd is never going to go for such impractical nonsense.

The convertible market contracted and the mainstream ones were the first to go. The VW EoS, Chrysler Sebring/200, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyta Camry Solara, and Pontiac G6 all faded out. The luxury convertible market is tiny compared to what it was 15-20 years ago too.

Yeah, there's only so many retirement age women in want of a convertible camry. My old manager had one - she loved it! same config as the one OP posted too. i feel like everyone of them was red with the beige rag, which may also have affected sales figures lololol

Anyone know why don't people buy convertibles anymore? Mainstream convertibles like the ones listed above were fun regardless of their mechanicals and reasonably priced.

They do. They just buy Wranglers (and now Broncos). People don't buy others because many non-truck or SUV purchases are made by people looking for inexpensive but practical A-B transportation. Convertibles don't really fit in there. And even in the premium segments, the manufacturers see way more upside in introducing additional SUVs instead of redesigning low volume convertibles.

I think some combination of safety concerns/regulatory requirements and better HVAC had a lot to do with it. Outside of sports/enthusiast cars, people also demand a lot more practicality. The market for 2 door coupes has also declined a lot (which are what most mainstream convertibles were based on).
