Feeling_sinister posted about moving the switch for the sunroof to the dash. After reading the post, I started wondering how hard it would be to mod the stock control so that it would open with one-touch (like our windows do.)
VReihenmotor6 posted that he did this to his for $7, but didn't give any hint as to HOW to do it.
I think it would be a very useful mod! Has anyone else done this who would care to teach the rest of us? VReigenmotor6?? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (rtmeikle)
I'm not sure where (or exactly why) he wanted to put the switch on the dash. I wasn't talking about that though. I'd rather just rewire the stock switch somehow so it'd work. I want it to look totally stock.

Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (2dubs)
I guess I'm popular
If I tell all you then it won't be original
sorry about the delays
I have been telling someone on AIM how to do this
you need a DEI (the company who makes viper) PULSE TIMER RELAY
I got mine at cost you will prob have to pay around $20 for it
when you get them
I will try to explain how to do it or maybe draw a diagram
you will have to purchase these at an alarm store
I will try to get the part # tomorrow
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (VReihenmotor6)
Which relay do you use? There are a few different lenghts in the DEI catalog, and I think theyalso have on that you can teach as well.....also, did you hide the relay in the roof or tap in down below? A great idea....
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (rtmeikle)
Okay after the last post i did some thinking, if we went to the junk yard and wired the window switch to the button that opens the sunroof, i think with some tricky wiring it would work because the window switch is what causes the one touch.
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (EuroStyle)
you use the pulse timer like I said
you must cut the wire that is attached to the sunroof open button and insert the relay there
it fit inside the pannel with the other switch just fine
Its a little more complicated than that but like I said I will try to explain
oh one more thing
I only have this hooked up to my open button
but you could hook it up to any the others as well
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (VReihenmotor6)
Thanks for posting VRehenmotor6! So your switch still looks totally stock! Cool! Any problems at all? Any downside to it?
I look forward to more detail, I'm definately gonna' have to try this!
Thanks again http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (rtmeikle)
I didn't mess withe the switch it's self so it is still stock
I ;nly messed with the wire
but it is all reversable
"Any downside to it?"
yup
If I have a brain fart and pusth the open button in the rain
I will get wet because once it stats it does not stop
I could wire it up like that but I'm not that stupid most times
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (VReihenmotor6)
lol, well, I could live with that. So you're saying you can't reverse it by hitting the close button? So I'm guessing that to have it only partially open, you'd have to open it all the way, then press the close button until it closed part-way?
Not a big deal, sounds like a great mod.

Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (rtmeikle)
you got it
unless you wanted to have a separate switch for the one touch open
thats just one of the many interior mods that I got the ideas from my mothers saab 9-5
the other is the nifty hazzard light now turned NO2 activation switch (awaiting the NO2)
the next is going to be the great buckle up light (looks just like on a jet plane)
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (VReihenmotor6)
is it possible to buy two of those DEI pulse timer relays and hook up one to open and one to close to have a fully functional "one-touch" sunroof switch (aside from the tilt feature)???
quote:

528-T
Pulse Timer with SPDT Relay
An adjustable (1 to 90 seconds) timer-controlled 30 A relay. Activates with a (+) or (-) trigger input. For temporary circuit connect / disconnect applications.

is this it? (part number in bold) seen it online for 21.00, gonna keep looking to see if theyre cheaper anywhere else.
Re: Converting sunroof to one-touch operation on mkIIIs (JetTAFLiTe)
you got it ^
I can got mine cheaper but that is how much they retail for
I'll try to write up a wiring diagram today for it
they give you good instructions with it but if you have questions
just ask...
