Coolant Resorvior CAP??

Can anyone give show me a pic of the what the Cap to expansion tank is supposed to look like(inside). I believe Im missing the oring? Or does it have it built in underneath? This is a fairly new cap, (couple months), but since I put in new hoses and other stuff I had the cap off in a box for couple weeks, and now Im losing coolant, no leaks, and temps rise, so I think its not sealing correctly. I just bought it though, so maybe I can pick up just the oring? Thanks guys,
Derrick

Check under that black plastic thing on the right of the tank. It says G11 on it. Pull it off and there is a hole there. I have no idea what it does but when I had coolant problems I found drops of coolant there.
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (VRSIX POWER)

There should be an o-ring on the inside of the cap. If not, get one. If you don't have it on there, the
coolant system will not be under pressure. Therefore, the boiling point of the coolant will NOT be raised -
and the coolant will boil above 210 degrees or so. Then, it will start coming out of the hole VRSIXPOWER
is talking about...It's not a pretty sight, I know this from experience. Good Luck.

That is exactally what I was just going to say, and he is totally right, it will boil out...i had experience as well with that

Wait! This o-ring should be where? Integral to the cap or actually slips over the threads or what? In other words, if you remove the cap and turn it upside down, will this o-ring fall off?

Exactly what I need to know, trip to the stealership tomorrow I guess

There are two sets of threads - an inner and an outer. The o-ring is on the inner "ring" of the cap and is easy to overlook.
I really don't think that it fell off. My guess is that you're looking in the wrong place. Happened to me, too - I thought the same thing
Good luck,

It won't fall off, it stretches over the threads. It is replaceable too (just the oring).
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (SLC4EVER)

Ok, I see the two sets of threads. Are you telling me that this rubber gasket belongs on the inner threads, down near the base (what would be the top of the cap when installed)? I just bought a new cap about six months ago when my cooling system woes began. Wouldn't a new cap come with the proper o-ring? Or must you ask for this specifically?

Youre right, I do have this oring, is there another on the outer thread? I find this cap loosening after prolonged driving, guess I gotta tighten the crap out of it. Maybe its cuz its new cap with a new tank also?
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (BlauSlc92)

Funny, mine seems to tighten over time. Sometimes I can barely turn it.
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (VR6guy)

ttt
Somebody answer the question about the gasket. Should there be a visible rubber gasket on the inner set of threads on the coolant reservoir cap? I don't think my cap has one... Anybody?

Went I bought a new cap and tank on the my old C and never had a problem with the cap loosening over time. I did have to replace the oring once because I damaged it when I put the cap back on.

You should be able to see a black oring.
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (Zyrod)

As Zyrod says, you should see one on the inner threads. Not on the outer. Should come as new, no need to specify.
Tighten it well, and it should not come undone.
Re: Coolant Resorvior CAP?? (BlauSlc92)

For those needing new caps - go to Pep Boys or a similar place that carries Stant products. You get the factory cap (complete with VW logo, part number, etc.) in Stant packaging for half the stealer price. Mine was less than 6 bucks.
