ok, got my water level light on the way to work this morning; stopped, and i was dropping water from the top hose in the water pump (the one that connects to the metal hose that goes round the block).
so, changed the hose, and filled up from the header tank. bottom of the rad is freezing, and all hoses do get hot, but no heat from heater matrix (even tho hoses are very hot both sides of the cutoff valves).
no visible water movement.
ok, water pump, clearly, right? i want to make sure theres no damage to the headgasket, how can i check?

Re: cooling problems. (stephensweetland)

Water in the oil? Oil in the water? Burning white smoke? Leaking around the headgasket? Gasket poking out randomly? Those are the biggest ways to tell if you have head gasket damage...But you cant always tell if it didnt totaly go.
