Corrado Brake Setup To Do 5 Lug Conversion

342 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  SII2L16V
i've been wanting to do this mod for sometime now but for the most part have found the cost to be too much. anyway, i found someone selling a complete brake setup form a vr6 corrado. everything is pretty much intact including the brake lines. exactly what parts do i need from this setup? my car is a 95 2.0 golf sport. already has discs in the rear. i'm not sure if i have abs or not but that was something of concern reading all the other posts. i want to keep everything functional. and the suspension. i have a set of neuspeed race/bilstein sports to go on. i hope i don't need to change to vr6 units. i can do the swap myself. i just need to be sure i got all the bases covered. this is my only car and i can't be w/o it during the week so this has to be a weekend project for me. i'll be sure to document everything including notes and pix!

well discs in the rear or not.. those are still gonna be 5lug right?
As for ABS.. when you start your car, you should see an ABS light. Another way to check is by looking at the strut assembly. If there aren't any electrical wires running down there, your car doesnt have abs (like mine
)
Im guessing that you need the calipers, rotors, hubs, and coilovers.

doh! yes it's still gonna be 5 lug in the rear. i just pointed that out 'coz from what i understand the cars w/ drums in the rear come w/ smaller brake master cylinders. i've done an a1 scirocco 16v brake conversions so i'm sure this is something i can handle.
yeah i know i'll need the calipers/carriers/rotors. i'm hoping it's just a matter of unbolting the the entire brake setup on my car and swapping in the corrado units. again the corrado unit is intact. rotors/calipers/carriers/knuckles/brake lines. everthing was unbolted from the car as a whole.

steve P posted a very complete how-to on swapping to vr6 brakes fornt and rear. you will pretty much need EVERYTHING from the vr6 (not just the caliper, carriers, and rotors). if all youre getting form the guy are the rotors, calipers, carriers, lines...you still have alot of stuff to buy. if youre on a budget, just get a set of audi dual piston brakes for the front. its a complete "ready-to-go" kit for about 800 bucks.

i appreciate all the responses! yeah everything on the vr6 unit is complete. i guess i should have said the vr6 units were basically unbolted up top @ the shocks and @ the bottom. oh wait! i just remembered. here's a similar pix. only it's a vr6. the one pictured is from a g60. check it out. it's on page 3.
