Corrado with Subaru Legacy hood scoop

3329 Views 23 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  petethepug
Several years ago there was a green Corrado rocking a Subaru Legacy hood scoop. It's the only time I've seen a hood scoop that looked good on a VW (I think there was also a gold GTI with the same one).

Anyone have pics of that car? I can't seem to find any with a simple internet/Tex search but I thought someone here might have it saved.

Since the others probably aren't functional, was the Corrado hood scoop functional?

I suppose as functional as blowing cool air into the engine bay can be. I just thought it was a cool look. I'm not opposed to purely aesthetic mods.
These ones are a bit more extreme. The Legacy hood scoop (at least, the version I'm thinking of--there might be variations of the Legacy scoop for all I know) was a bit flatter, less pronounced (and IMO, look much better on VWs). The Corrados here look like they're using scoops from the early-gen WRXs. Pics below for comparison:

There used to be hood scoops for Rabbits and Sciroccos. Those funneled air into the plenum to cool down the interior. Less needed after A/C.

You could re-rout the intake duct to above the intake manifold and make the hood scoop functional but I don't think there is enough room above the engine in a Corrado or Scirocco.

If I was racing a Corrado, I'd remove the right headlight so the intake could get unblocked air. Ford did that in the '60s. Took out a few headlights and used them as intake grilles.
There is a guy in the Corrado club of Canada FB group selling a Corrado with what looks to be the legacy scoop, I may have a legacy scoop from my subi days somewhere in my garage

There are also scoop replacements for the fog lights. They are for the brakes but you could use the right one for an intake.
1980 is calling long distance, will you accept the charges?

Instead of a scoop, a vent bling”d into the hood would be more period correct.

I can hear the synth music coming from this pic.
^^^Whoa, flashbacks!! 😆 IIRC,the OG Rabbit/Scirocco hood scoops were actually Mazda RX7 Turbo II scoops. Kamei made one also, but the original Callaway Turbo cars used the RX7's.

Kamei introduced its Scirocco and Golf air scoops before I bought my 1978 Scirocco. I thought they were fugly but they probably would have shoveled more cold air into the cabin.
Found a couple pics posted on the BurnAllTheCorrados Facebook Group.

I'd personally try and get the scoop molded in a bit further down the hood (like the Legacy wagon pictured above). It looks strange to me, right up against the windshield like these.
