I wanted to ttake my front wheels off today, and clean the brake dust off the rims thoroughly. Also clean out the wheel well... However, I started to jack the car (using a rolling floor jack) up towards the back of the indicated spot for the jack. I did this because I needed to leave room for the jack stand. However, I noticed that the vertical stiffener that you place the jack on started to bend.
Does anyone have any tricks on lifting the front? The back lifted fine (probably because a lot lighter)
Much appreciated

Re: Correct way to jack a Jetta VR6 (djkoell)

i pack the jack with cardboard before lifting and it seems to alleviate this problem, then i stick the jackstands under the A-arm (i think this its what it's called....) and it works fine

djkoell: Not to imply you are a little dim, but how did you expect this vertical flange not to bend? It is never intended to be used as a jacking point.
If you are not using the VW jack which STADDLES this flange, you would use a block of wood about 2 inches thick in the flat area provided just inboard of the flange at each jack point. Then place your floor jack on the wood block.
