L8Apex ( Micheal Bolton) and I are going on a cross country trip in the Uber Trash Schitrocco. I will send pics of it. We are going to Maine then across the Midwest then to California coast (PCH) then up to Washington State, then to Alaska then back to VA the trip will take about 3 months.

quote:

I've gone round trip 2 1/2 times. My personnal record is Daytona to Bakersfield in two days! Daytona to Flagstaff, AZ STRAIGHT THROUGH- BY MYSELF
!!!! Then I got a good nights sleep at a hotel, and finished the next day.
Vivarin and Mt. Dew were my friends

Isn't that illegal? Or at the very least, unsafe?

He he, I did the same thing when I moved from CA to CO. (back in 87)
Drove straight through with no sleep from Denver, CO to San Jose, CA and back to Denver. Vivarin and Mt. Dew all the way!!!!!!!!!!!
This was in a 1975 Buick Century pulling a double axle U-haul (90+mph in I-80 in Wyoming
Probably won't ever try that again tho', gettin' too old. LOL
I did the drive to Alaska back in 95 in my 81 Scirocco and it was a blast.
I did it alone so there were a few time where I was a little worried about something going wrong. I went through 3 tires but never got stranded by it.
My advice is to run no larger than 195/60/14's (some of the roads suck and the rocks are VERY sharp) and make sure you have a good spare. If (when) you blow a tire, make sure to get it repaired/replaced in the next town!!!!!
When you are in the SF Bay Area, LMK and we'll get the local Scirocco guys together for a diner/brews/etc.... !!!!
Ironman cross country trip in a 1988 Scirocco 16v (eurotrashrabbit)
I would HIGHLY reccomend installing some Recaro's for that trip! Or better yet some of those "couch" seats from an Oldsmobile!
I pulled the Port Townsend, Wa to San Diego trip in my '88 two summers ago. Those seats are not kind after about 6 hours.
Re: Ironman cross country trip in a 1988 Scirocco 16v (Diamond Dave)
I agree with Dave here.
I was using an aftermarket Recaro in my Scirocco when I made the Alaska trip.
Never had a problem the entire way....very comfortable.
The stock seats have NO backsupport.
You could also pick up one of those lumbar bladders, might help a little.
