In 1974/75, the United States market received the Scirocco with a 1.5L (1,477 cc) engine fitted with two Zenith carburetors that produced 70 hp @ 5800 rpm and 81 ft-lbs of torque @ 3500 rpm. With a curb weight of 1,940 pounds, the Scirocco could run 0-60 mph in 12.7 seconds. List price was $4,450.

That was all I could find immediatly. Try a search, the question has been asked many times

Re: Curb weight? (Iroczgirl)

My 1975 owners manual says 2010lbs. "ready for use". I've always interpreted that to include a tank of fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid, spare tire, jack, etc. The former a/c system added another 70lbs., according to the same book.

Re: Curb weight? (first_rocc)

My MkI weighed 1850 at the track once, but next time it was more like 1950. Mind you, I had a bunch of crap in the hatch that time. My 16V's a bit over 2000 but it's been put on a diet, 2200-2300 is likely typical.

Re: Curb weight? (Iroczgirl)

Base weight on a 78...not curb weight which is full of fluids etc
is 1888
curb is 1950
every year after '78 the weight goes up about 50 lbs.
81 is curb 2100
My 78 has been on a severe diet it weighs with 1/4 tank 1700.
hope this helps
Cabrio 2275
Mk2's weigh as much as a Cabrio. PORKY! LOL

Re: Curb weight? (sciroccohal)

Sorry ....these numbers are from 'The encyclopedia of foreign cars'
thety are very accurate.
My car was weighed and corner weighted.
Being as I'm sort of 'the lightweight Scirocco guy'
here some more data: Remove.....
A/c complete EXACTLY 59.5 lbs
Front and rear bumpers 94
Rear seat/seatbelts/package shelf/shelf extensions 68
Rubber floor underlayment(s) 39
Pass seat 38
sparetire jack/wrench 42
hope this helps!

yes, but they ca go on diets, too.
Things I've saved weight on:
Traded US for Euro bumpers
removed AC
Future plans:
remove PS
14" Audi/Ronal R8 wheels (lighter than teardrops)
swap big wing for a euro GTX spoiler
remove rear wiper

YES! THEY CAN, I believe you can get a MK2 down to 1900 without driving around a penalty box or a drum!
good luck!

Re: Curb weight? (Mtl-Marc)

Stupid me...I left the camera at home....however, no expense was apparently spared....lots of aluminum, all windows lexan, no undercoating, reverse cooling system, alum. hand fabbed lower control arms, fiberglas fenders (all) c/f hood. No headlight buckets etc. Doors completely gutted to just the outer skin....Rocchead's super trick hollow adjustable, heim-jointed rear stabilizer bar...Panasports
The car looked great!
Appropriately, it's my old 1500 block and head! Well, when it was stock.
I THOUGHT...Dick told me it was 1350# WITH DRIVER!....maybe Rocchead can comment...he worked a lot on the car!

Re: Curb weight? (Iroczgirl)

I've been wanting to do this for a while.
I love small light cars...I've owned a lot.
These are some of the cars I've owned and their SHIPPING weights...that is minimum weight, 1 gall gas...etc. Slightly less than curb weight. (Fluids full) Pretty close to 'I'll race for pinks' weight! lol
'70 Mini Euro 850 cc 1294 lbs
'61 Bugeye Sprite 850 1316
'71 Fiat Spyder 850 1590
'78 Honda Civic 1553
'72 Lotus Europa s2 1570
'80 Rabbit Base 1750
'75 Rabbit strippo BASE 1757
'78 Scirocco (currently driving) 1700
'68 Beetle 1750
'70 Opel GT 1780
'78 Triumph Spitfire 1828
'78 Subaru DL 2 dr. 1975
'73 Opel GT 1900 2030
And the 'porker' 73 BMW 2002 TII 2317.
Anybody have a '70 Honda 600 Coupe for sale?...make mine Orange!
hope this is helpful.
