I want to cut the shifter on my 98 Jetta and I need to know if the threads on the shifter are metric?

metric...not sure what size, try a search
Re: Cutting my shifter (VR6 Mk3)

off the top of my head, 12 mm and 1.5 pitch.
Need to confirm this though
Re: Cutting my shifter (VR6 Mk3)

Do a search in the A3 Forum on "shifter"...someone mentioned it in the last couple weeks...

Re: Cutting my shifter (REDDUB)

I think that the threads on my 1994 Jetta are 12mm, 1.5 but I don't know about other years. In any case if you are cutting it then you need to know what the threads are on the new knob (if any at all) and rethread the shifter to match up. Or are you reusing the stock knob and boot?
Re: Cutting my shifter (bajan01)

I have a VW Motorsport knob and boot, and I would like to keep it.
Re: Cutting my shifter (REDDUB)

That's almost assuredly the OE size threading. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Cutting my shifter (j-dub)

Yes j-dub is correct. I have the tap/die set at home and I did it last night 12mmx1.5 You can get the whole kit standard/metric or just get the size you need. I got mine a Sears for less than $15.00.....now go get it and do it to it!!!!!!
