Re: cutting shifter rod questions... (GranTouring InjectedVR6)
I just used a pipe cutter. I didn't think it twisted the shifter up very much when I did mine, but others have tried it, and said it was trying to twist the shifter a bit much, and they held the shaft with vise-grips while the cutting was being done. Or maybe while the new threads were being cut in...yeah, I think that was it...the die is kind of hard to twist on. Anyway, be aware of that
You can use a Dremel I'm sure, but it won't be the clean kind of cut you get from a pipe cutter. Not that it being ultra-clean matters since it'll be hidden, but anyway
To get the shifter out requires you drop the exhaust and remove the shift box, which is why I cut mine in the car! I took off 2 inches, maybe 2.5? I can't recall now, but once you get the end cut off, use a M12x1.50 die to cut new threads onto the end of the shaft, so the shifter knob will thread back on.
Good luck! Did you ever get your headlights working right, with everything nice and bright?
Broke
