cv joints

Anyone done these on a 16v? What is the size of the bolt on axle? I went to Sears to get an impact socket for it, and the largest they had was 27mm, which still didn't fit... Any ideas where i can get one? Also, the tool to undo the bolts for the inner CV joints, I can get that at sears right? That's just 12 point allen's wrench correct

Re: cv joints (bollo)

If I can remember I think the axle nut is a 30mm, and for the inner CVs it is a 12 point allen wrench. This is what is written on it: "SC MV 8" (if that helps)

Thanks for the reply bro http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
anyone know where I can get a 30mm impact socket? I went to sears and they didn't have it, nor did Pep Boys. IS it something i gotta go to snap-on for??? Lemme know...

You don't necessarily need an impact socket...i just used an 1 and 3/16" (may have been 1 and 5/16") half inch drive socket...on a pneumatic impact wrench though...and that worked fine. the 12 point tool is an odd one to find in the hardware store, so i would either go to snapon, mac tools, or the dealership to order it(last resort)...plus, if you get it from snap on, lifetime warranty.
btw, easiest to get the axle bolts out with a 3/8" impact(if you have one) and a long extension. have fun
Re: cv joints (bollo)

Maybe try another Sears? My local Sears carries them. They should be in the 1/2" drive sockets.
Oops, but maybe not in an impact. When I did mine, I used a 18" breaker bar with a 4' steel pipe over the bar to give me more leverage. Works well, but the wheel has to be on the ground.

thanks fellas, at least now i know what size socket it requires, i'll just have to find it..
Re: cv joints (bollo)

i got mine from Home Depot
Re: cv joints (RavenGTi)

I've been using a Craftsman non-impact 30mm socket on an impact for years. My SnapOn 1/2" drive impact makes 625 ft/lbs. If the socket breaks, so what, it was inexpensive to begin with.

lifetime warranty on those crastmen sockets too, i also just use a breaker bar... the allen wrench is pretty hard to find, but if you are lucky (and careful not strip the heads of the bolts),you can use a allen wrench w/ less points.
a little off topic, but anyone know where to get rebuilt driive shafts for cheap or cheap inner joints (the ball bearings fell out of mine when i was removing the tranny and motor...)
