Hello,

I have a Canadian Golf with a CXB(B) engine, but can't find which iteration of the EA888 engine it is. According to one site (see link below) there are 3 versions, and I am trying to find out which one I have. Does anybody know for sure, without guesses or conjectures? Is there a way to find out?

Thank you!
M.

If this a 2015+ Golf then probably gen 3. Easiest way to tell is by looking at cylinder head side cover, where I believe you found the engine code. If one variable valve timing system (intake only) then it's either gen 1 or gen 2. Gen 3 added another variable vale timing system to the exhaust camshaft, so you'd be looking at two on the side cover.

Hope this helps!

FWIW, my 2019 US Alltrack has CXB code. I found some web content that says gen 3, but am still looking for more about the CXB
