DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS and HIGH/LOW BEAMS

Ok i am having horrible trouble with this, i haven't found any info anywhere from anyone who can help me with this.
Ok my first and most important question is, IS there any way to make it where the running lights will not come on when i start my car and while driving? I know they are safe and all but I don't like having them running and waisting energy, and if its raining or foggy i'll turn them on myself. I'm sorry its just a personal pet peeve. I thought about rigging the parking brake wire and making it just stay on but then that makes the parking brake light come on and also if my fluid ever got low, i wouldn't know since the brake light would already be on all the time. Maybe anyone know how to modify the switch and clip one of the electrical bridges in it or something?
My second question is...is there anyway i can buy a switch or modify the current one to make it where my low beams stay on at the SAME TIME my high beams do? You see I live out in the country and its hard to see at night and the low/high beams are very weak BUT them together are perfect. I was wondering if there was a possible modification or swich i can buy or something to make this happen.
oh yeah the model of my car is....
97' Volkswagon Jetta with a 2.0L gasoline engine. It also has fog lights (The switch that you pull out and the fog lights come on) I would GREATLY appreciate any help anyone can give me...if need contact then my e-mail is..

thanks for all the help!

Ok with your car to disabble the DRL you have to go under the dash pull down the fuse panel. Then just look for the yellow wire that is in there that has a yellow connection on it. Just unplug it. It is basically just the wire that triggers the DRL but they put a connection on the wire. So all you have to do is unplug it. Everything with it is yellow, so you can't go wrong.
With the lows staying on with the highs. when i got my Golf IV headlights I got a jumper that made it so that they both stayed on. all it does it jumps two terminals together under a relay on the fuse panel. I really dont' know off hand, but I am sure someone does. Another advantage of this is that your fogs will stay on. So with your highs you will have all your lights. Good luck

1. Pull the relay like 1997 Golf GL said.. I think its number 164..
2. just upgrade your lights. I installed a set of EuroLights and WOW what a diffrence.. i drive on a lot of dark country roads. and I don't even have fog lights.

Re: DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS and HIGH/LOW BEAMS (H2oVento)

Hey i think i'll just forget about the high/low beam things, i'm just 17 i'm not rich to do all that crazy stuff, and, since i'm here i might ask, is it bad to use those 100 watt high beams on the stock wiring? I was thinking this because when you switch from low to high there would be 160 watts flowing through the fuse which would blow it as its only 100 watts. SO i guess that wouldn't work, but thank you for your help with the running lights, i will do that with the relay wire even though i'm confused with one part...is that wire BEHIND the relay and fuse panel or in front of it or can i just pull the WHOLE relay out? Please help! Thanks
