Dealer oil change or not

I just wanted the views of other dubbers. Should I get my free oil changes from the dealer? I've heard horror stories of people getting their cars back with damage (grease spots on interior fabric, damaged wheels, scratches in paint,...). Is it worth the risk or should I do the service myself?. I am very protective of my car, as many dubbers are, and all the dealer usually does is deny that they did any damage, so it becomes your word against theirs. What should I do?

Re: Dealer oil change or not (mbeer)

if you're that worried take a bunch of photos of your car inside and out and under w/ a normal film camera before you go in for the oil change then when it's their word against yours well at least you have some photographic proof ... dunno how that would help though.

Depends on whether or not your dealer has a good or bad rep. I just took mine to Auburn VW in WA where I live for the first 5,000 mile change. They just built a new service garage with Windows so you can watch your car getting worked on. They did a really good job (except they overfilled the crankcase a little, so I had them adjust it). Another nice touch was that they use Castrol GTX, which is the oil I've used in all my cars before this one. As far as the future changes, you don't get another one till 10,000, so i'm gonna change mine at 8,000, then take it in for the 10,000 mile change at 11,000. 3,000 mile is the max after breakin that you should let your oil and filter go.
