I think it would look better with a black face plate. I dont think they are junk I mean arent the MKIV equipped with them, and it has the nice blue glow to it. NICE!

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (CNY_VDUB)

Clarion JUNK!? Not even close, I have been doing custom installs for years and before that I sold for many of the "high end" companies that are still on the market today. Clarion has got to be one of the finest built CD players out there. Why do you think it has taken Alpine so long to get back on there feet after Clarion stopped making their products a few years back? Go with the Clarion, they build a fantastic product and stand behind it, unlike a lot of other incompetent well known companies I have had the unpleasure of dealing with. There's a bad egg in every bunch doesn't mean the whole company is bad.
There are a lot of other really good companies out there, so don't get that I'm saying that the Clarion is the BEST. It's just a really well constructed piece, the companies been around the block for a long time.

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (CNY_VDUB)

did you order it from sounddomain.com?
I agree w/ the stuff about it being good
I think if one person has a bad experience, somehow it turns into that person telling everybody and so on. so......
we'll see

I don't think that deck will work with your changer. You have to go with a lower model Deck. Something about the cd changer controls. I'd just make sure with a dealer before buying it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (vr6willeatyou)

So your gonna connect this to the Changer that came with the car then, right? I got one in my 99 Golf Wolfsburg and I was told it was a Panasonic and an aftermarket Panasonic dec will not work because the VW connection is specific to the VW HU, that is just what I've heard tho! I sold and installed the hole thing thing (HU and Changer) to my buddy and installed it in his Honda Civic, hehe, it looks funny, with a VW logo on the HU! But works great!

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (Mojoban)

well....from what i heard VW used clarion and panasonic, and you can tell the difference by the bump on the flap where you would put in the tape.
I not only want to change this for the sound quality, but whenever you turn the volume up ro down you get this horrible static from turning the button, and if you tape the button you get it too?????

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (TREKinFlorida)

my bro has the aiwia in his gti, sounds great and its worth it for the price.
it skips on ocassion, and take a sec to get to the next song, but its first gen.
its a little flaw for a player that has 400 songs per cd!
its the best bang for the buck, can't beat that
i dunno how much the other company is, but im pretty sure its just as good.

Re: Decent Clarion DEck (SuckaFree)

I have that EXACT deck and I'm sorry to say this to you misbelievers but.. the deck is FAR from junk. I used to have a high end Eclipse HU, which is a nice ass deck, and I thought it sounded incredible... Until I installed this deck, it blows the other one away. It's crystal clear, and loud. I also have a cup kit and have hit some pretty nasty bumps and it never skipped a beat. Awesome reception too, something that can't be said for many of the decks out there.
Also, as far as faceplates go, you can put any color faceplate you want on it, it's removable. Just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. simple. I got a black one free when I got mine.
P.S. Thanks Jess...
It was a christmas prez

I have a Clarion HU that's been in my car for the past 5 years and I have yet to have any problems with it (knock on wood). I plan on having Clarion as my next HU as well.
FWIW, my unit is compatible with the OEM CD changers, I think we just needed to swap in a different cable to mate them. Of course, the changer is long gone in favor of just the single CD in the HU.
