What's up vortexers,
I have been looking at the 2002 GTI 1.8T, and was pretty close to buying one. The thing is that a salesman found a leftover 2001 1.8T GTI, reflex silver and might be able to give me a sweet deal.

My question is do I go for the 2002 or the 2001. With the 2k2 I get an extra 30hp stock, the 16inch wheels (correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 2k1 has the 15 inchers) plus the 4 year b2b.
Or do I save money and go for the left over. I know that a chip on either motor will net about the same gains so do I really lose engine wise?

Another thing is the MAF, O2 and window regulator issues are more llikely to pop up with the 2k1 right? With the 4 year b2b on the 2k2 I would feel much more secure about any problems.

When details on how much I can save are worked out I will post them right away.

Sorry this got so long, but I need some help guys (and girls). 2001 for less dough, or do I splurge for the 2k2 and get the extra goodies plus the 4 year security blanket? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure though that the price difference will lean into you getting the '01. And as far as '01 goes, I've never had any problems with mine and I'm APR'd. I drive extremely aggressive too, and never had anything go wrong. At 10k with no probs. Just my 2 cents.

quote:

If I can get the 2001 for invoice price or at most $500 over is it worth it?

Not really...If you play your cards right you can get a 2002 for 500 over invoice.

Invoice Price??? Tell that guy to pack sand
I got my 2k Golf GLS 1.8t last August 31 for $15400 including tax, tags & title. The NADA used car price was $16.8k. Talk to them about the "obsolete model", "leftover inventory" and get the new warrenty.

Do you plan on modding? Then I'd probably go with the old leftover. If you are going to get into warranty issues anyway, why not just sweat the chip too.
If you are going to leave the car alone then everything I've experienced tells me to go with the 02.
Now keep this in mind, when I bought my '02 I didn't intend on modding. I figured 180hp is plenty, but HP is addictive. (reading the board doesn't help)
Most of all, get what you want. Don't sacrifice what you want. I didn't get what I wanted in my last car, and I'm paying for it now.

Re: decisions, decisions (dome)

This has been discussed in great detail in a couple other threads already this week. Look back through a couple of pages and you might find some other opinions. One was title 01 or 02....
Good Luck. IMO, there is always something better and newer no matter what you buy, so it is going to be hard to ever be satisfied.

Re: decisions, decisions (Flacker)

Thanks for all the input guys. I just got off the phone with them, and they seem like they are trying to jerk me around a little.
If anything I will go with the 2002, because the price diff. isn't that big it seems. They are negotiating, but only to a certain point. I may try another dealer though.
They wanted $18,800 for the 2001 !

They were willing to talk, but I felt insulted by that bogus offer. They tried to tell me that was dealer invoice, and they weren't making money. Yeah right.
I may or may not go in to talk on Sat. I was right to feel insulted , right? I know that wasn't a deal, except for them.
Anyway, i'll post more details as they surface.
