Completely by accident while putting de-icer in my locks to stop them freezing up some ran down onto the black (now more like grey) plastic of my door handles and magically turned them black and like new. So I experimented deliberately applying some and all I can see is its brilliant - the de-icer is clear and doesn't seem to affect the surrounding paintwork plus it doesn't make a mess like back2black etc on your hands or on surrounding paintwork.
It seems to contain alcohol and silicone so it cleans, blackens and waterproofs plastic and rubber all in one!
The stuff in question is VW Lock De-Icer, part number 00V 096 313 (006) if anyone else wants to give it a go. I'll be using it from now on on all the rubber and plastic trim http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
And yes, it is summer now - this happened a while back but haven't shared until now. Been doing this for 18 months without any adverse affect to doorhandles or surrounding paint.
