diesel downpipe/exhaust pipe on an 8v?????

Hi, was just messing about with ETKA trying to figure the easiest way to do a "cat bypass" or "test pipe" on my 8v and I hit upon part number 176 253 091 B, which seems to be a straight pipe exhaust section running from the exhaust manifold to where the cat and centre exhaust section would normally meet. From what I could tell this would be a straight swap for 8v downpipe and cat.
If I bought this section new it would remove the cat section, be cheaper than a high-flow cat, and provide no turbulence at all unlike a gutted cat. Sounds mighty tempting.
So, is this feasible - please post up if you know any more. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Feasable, but rather expensive in my opinion. I'd just get a flange to fit the downpipe, weld a short (3-5") piece of pipe to it, and get the spiral flex hose from your local part store. This will improve the flow, almost COMPLETELY eliminate "exhaust shake" on acceleration/deceleration, and cost only about $15-$20 for the whole set-up. The only down side to it is that you'll have to replace the flex every couple of years, but that only costs about $5.

That's not a bad idea but i have no welder and I'm keen to make this look as stock as possible and, even witht he best of intentions, a flex hose where the cat used to be is going to look pretty suspicious

I think I'll give the diesel pipe a go and see if it all hooks up OK - I'll psot up the result if anyone else is interested?
