Re: Difference between Tri Y and 4-2-1 Headers, and what you prefer? (Quest)

A tri-Y header is a 4-2-1 header. The name tri-Y refers to the three collectors (two at 4-2 and one at 2-1,) which have a sort of Y shape.

That's hilarious. I'm not really a car guy, I'm just now starting to get into all this, fixing up my car and stuff. But seriously, I was at an online shop and they were selling tri y headers and 4-2-1 headers, and it seemed as though they were two diff types. Sorry for the lame post. I'm a little embarassed now.

For a 4 cyl. yor aptions are
Tri-Y (or 4-2-1)
or
4 into 1
The tri-y is better for low end to midrange (daily driver stuff) and the 4 into 1 is good for high RPM (circle track or drag racing). I prefer tri-y because you get a lot better drivability on the street.
