Difference in OBD I TPS sensor (VR6 gurus please respond)

1350 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  vdubjb
There are 2 different TPS sensor for the OBD Vr6 (atleast for the corrado there is ) One the older style i believe came on the Distributor Vr6. The other came on the coil pack Vr6. They are different part numbers and both require different throttle bodies due to the way they are positioned on the throttle body. Unless you tap the throttle body for the different position. Is there any difference inregards to the values outputed by the throttle body to the ECU. I have a Distributor Vr6, and had the older style. When i went to a big bore throttle body i went to the newer style? Does anyone know if there is a huge difference in these besides they actualy apperance and the way they are mounted on the throttle Body.
thanks

Re: Difference in OBD I TPS sensor (VWpowa)

Do you know the part #s on the TPSs? I know that there are two different sensors for the OBDI VR6 - Part # 021 907 385 (A or B) and part # 037 907 385 Q. The second part # superseeds the first. The newer sensor is smaller, but will work fine on any TB as long as you have the correct length screws.

i have both throttle bodys, the late and the early....it seems to work fine i just wanted to know if the output values were any different.... i have the newer one running on my car now...but you can not swap TPS sensors from the on throttle body to the other...we tried...the piece is made differnt you would have to drill and thread some new holes ...the position is a little differnt on each....
Re: Difference in OBD I TPS sensor (VWpowa)

Could you post pics of the TBs?
Re: Difference in OBD I TPS sensor (Marc A. Brown)

u mean post pics of the TPS sensors or the throttle bodies....It will be easy to do the TPS's....throtlte bodies on the other hand will be a pain... i can post pics of the older style throttle body....and the two tps, you can see from there what im talking about....Ill post them...Hopefully someone might know if they output different values or not.... I dont think they do but it was just something i was thinking of the other day. Ill post some pics tommorrow.

Yes your facts and figures are right.
To satisfy my curiosity I had them both (2.9l euroversions) measured for resistance change in regards with the opening and closing. The gave the same measurements. So there is no difference apparently.

I agree with Niko. The resistance between the 2 TPSs is the same.
I am interested in seeing what the older TB looks like. Is it similar in design to the 2.9 Euro TB? What's the part # on it? If you could post the pic you mentioned, that would be great...
Re: Difference in OBD I TPS sensor (Marc A. Brown)

ok no problem buddy....I think they are virtually the same except for the holed tapped for the tps...but ill post them

Go to the corrado parts section of dieselgeek.com. There is a pic of an od1 tps. The later ones are like twice as big.
