I was talking to a friend that has a MK3 GTI who plans on swapping for a 1.8t. ANYWAY HE claims he found a (1.8t)motor with 190hp. Then he said the 337 motors are over 200hp. I may be wrong but i told him there are only 150hp (99.5-2002ish) and 180hp(2002+) 1.8t's.Can someone clarify please before i bet him money
thanks

Well there are serveral 1.8Ts here in the U.S.
150hp * 2000-2001 Golf/GTI/Jetta, All 1.8 Turbo Beetles except for the turbo S
170hp * Passats / A4s
180hp * 2002+ GTI/Jetta, Beetle S
225hp * Audi TT
The 337 and the 20AE uses that 180hp engine like the rest of the 2002+
P.S. The 1.8t has always been underrated. The 180hp motor actually has 190+ hp in it.

Re: DIFFERENT 1.8T's???????????????????? (RuffBuffDuB)

Some car companies say they have a certain hp rating more or less then they really do. For example. VW says the 2002 GTI 1.8T has 180hp and 174 foot lbs of torque at the crank. The engine makes more then that. I think they said it was only 180/174 so they dont under sell the new VR6 with 200hp.
Last year I dynoed my stock car (2002.5 GTI 1.8T)
1st Pull - 163.6 whp / 175.3 wtq
2nd Pull - 167.9 whp / 175.6 wtq
3rd Pull - 166.7 whp / 173.0 wtq
-----------------------------------------------
Average - 166.1 whp / 174.6 wtq
If you use the standard for our cars (~12.8% drivetrain loss) that means that the car makes about 187.4hp & 197 foot lbs of torque on average if you go by my #s.
This is only one example. Some companies over rate their cars to make them seem better. VW has a history of under rating their cars.
