I am building a system to use a small computer as a music library. In the interest of good quality sound, I would like to use a digital output so none of the decoding happens inside the computer, and I can use a purpose built, high quality, DAC to do the job.
So far, the only real option for this that I have found is the Nakamichi MB-100. The head unit for that system outputs a digital signal to a preamp that comes with it. The preamp has a secondary digital in, and the head unit controls the volume and source. The preamp outputs a 4 channel analog signal to be run through an amp.
Can anyone suggest a different solution?
Does anyone know of another device that can take a digital S/PDIF signal, convert it to analog, and offer volume control?
