As Promised.
What this does...Obviously...Like an air intake. This breathes cold air though like the stock box and more of it. Give your engine a throaty growl. Costs about 5-10% of what those $300 intakes cost, yes, that means it only costs from 15-30 bucks. Why not try it? If you don't like it...hmm you're out $30 instead of $300.
So now that I've got you hooked here are the details.
Tools:
Drill
1.5" bit
Dremel w/ sanding drum is handy and probably my favorite tool ever.
Any tool you need to take out your airbox and passenger side headlight and foglight off.
Including: Torx bits
phillips driver
flat head driver
10mm socket
Materials:
1.5" drain tube, flexible plastic stuff.
...that's all
Now take out the airbox, headlight, foglight...so you have room to work. IF you can't take that stuff out or are too scared too. TRY ANYWAYS. If you're still to scared, never work on your car again! lol
jk. If you try and fail at least you will learn something.
Then drill 4 holes in your airbox like so:

Also, with the wheel off it is easier to drill these holes in the wheel liner like so:

Then run all your hoses to random cold air points of entry.
I have to go get my haircut so I am just going to post this and finish it later. Peace out.
So back from Hairmasters...
Continuing.. on
to get the hoses to the lower grille is hard to explain. You just have to fish your way through and then all of a sudden you are there. I did not use bigger hose because it would not have fit. Remember 4 x 1.5" = 6" worth of airflow. More than you probably need. I originally only had 2 but then opened up 2 more just for sound.
I ran the bottom hose down as shown in the last pic by the wheel well liner. That does look like a good product that HARVag posted.
Also apparently those with 99.5 and older cars will have to find another spot to run the hoses to.

aahemm....

part number 8D0 821 1726 at your local friendly audi dealership...53 bucks

*also to my 97-99 freinds..you will have trouble running hoses below the airbox due to a secondary air pump that the 99.5-01.5 dose not have*

if you drill holes in the wheel liner, wont water get in there?

maybe! maybe not! the holes are so small that they aren't going to let a significant amount of water in.

I will be able to tell you that next week hopefully. Hyperboost *should* be "out for delivery" according to UPS tracking service.
I don't hear any BOV sound with the stock DV in place. Not sure if you are supposed to though either.

how are you attaching the hoses to the holes in the airbox securely?

Those hose that i got, if you cut it right, there were baffles on it, i'll take more pics. The baffles would "snap" into place and secure the hose perfectly.
TurboNasty. Guess no BOV sound then

and are you just letting the other ends of the hose receiving the air hang in place or are they secured somehow?

im not in any way trying to scrutinize your work at all, but im just thinking this out if i decide to do it...dont know much about the placement of these hoses, but is there the possibility that they could shift/swing/move while driving and come in contact with a hot part of the engine or something?

A good question indeed. I'm glad you're asking all these questions so everyone else will understand better too. The hoses are really wedged in where they are. They are fairly ridged too. I am very confident that they won't move around while driving at all. Once you start to work them through to the lower grille you will realize that:
#1) they are hard to get there
#2) #1 means they will be hard to get out

Thanks Ike. It looks great. About how long is each length of hose? With as little material as it seems like there is, I think you are being pretty liberal with the $15-30 estimate. Looks like quite a bit less than that. Plus, I can get the hose at cost from work, so even less money for me. Should be a fun project for this weekend after work (no Duck game on Saturday means free time).

let me know when you're off work Jacen, I'll give you a hand (if I can borrow your jackstands (if you have any) to put in my hyperboost DV)

no, if you still have the main hose open for intake when the bottom hoses get clogged up the intake will just take air from the unclogged hoses. air will travel the easiest path and it will only suck water in if there is a vaccum...which there wont be. its not a very good write up...or idea. its kindof a knock-off "Colorado Open Air Intake" mixed with the good old fashion Dairintake...but i guess it works...

Maybe threethirteen would like to put something better together for us then?
